The Minister of Health and Social Service (MoHSS) says the ministry is looking into introducing type two polio vaccines.
Dr. Esperance Luvindao was responding to Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) MP Winnie Moongo in the National Assembly following parents' concerns.
"I have been receiving calls since the conclusion from parents and guardians with children under the age of 10 who are eligible for the vaccination. And they are asking whether there has been a provision made for the children who have not taken their, who have missed out actually on round one of the vaccination," says Moongo.
Dr Esperance Luvindao says that they will look into the matter, explaining that right now the focus is on what the country is more exposed to.
"Vaccines that we had were previously targeted at type one and type three. Now because of the fact that we have this news circulating, now we have to introduce this to type two. They really shouldn't be missing. We did give quite ample time. We did alert everybody to how serious it is and the importance they are. It is important to know that polio is one of those where we had to do very little, even advertisement. We did a lot but very little because, generally, the population is aware of polio."
Regarding the total coverage reach, the minister says that the three-day campaign was successful, adding that within the first two days they had already reached 91% coverage.
