During the tabling of the national budget for the 2026/2027 fiscal year, Minister of Finance Ericah Shafudah revealed that the social sector remains the largest area of government expenditure.

In keeping with the established trends, education and health continue to enjoy the biggest slice of the national budget, with a combined allocation of N$41 billion.

The total budget for the 2026/2027 fiscal year amounts to over N$106 billion.
The social sector has been allocated N$53,3 billion, which makes up about 61,7% of the total budget.

The minister says this reflects the government's commitment to objectives set in the National Development Plan 6 (NDP6).

"These investments are strengthening human capital, improving productivity, and supporting inclusive growth. Education equips our youth with skills for the modern economy, while health spending safeguards workforce participation and reduces long-term fiscal costs."

N$28 billion will be allocated towards education, innovation, arts and culture, with N$2,8 billion designated towards subsidised tertiary education.

N$939 million is earmarked for development projects, with N$750 million designated towards sports, youth and national services.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services has been allocated N$13,1 billion, which includes N$259 million for the recruitment of health professionals.

The ministry will also receive an additional N$38,5 billion for infrastructure development over the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework period.
