The Vice President, Lucia Witbooi, has called on Namibians to follow the example of the country's forebearers, urging citizens to embrace selflessness, unity and resilience in serving the nation.

She was speaking at the Independence Day celebration at Karasburg.

People from all walks of life, from senior government officials to traditional and spiritual leaders and the communities from different constituencies, crowded the stadium.

"As a nation we must emulate the selflessness, unity of purpose and resilience demonstrated by our forebearers. Their legacy should inspire us to serve the best interest of all Namibians in every corner of our country, including the ||Kharas region." 

Governor Gertze praised the spirit of unity among Namibians and commended the ||Kharas region for the successful turnout.

"We are gathered here today as a diverse people, diverse in language, culture and tradition, yet united in purpose. We stand together to celebrate the gains of our forefathers and mothers who envisioned a Namibia free from oppression, where all the citizens could live in dignity and equally. ||Kharas region, you have demonstrated through your conduct and turnout today that you have embraced the responsibility of hosting this national event."

The Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Art and Culture Minister reminded Namibians that independence was earned through courage and sacrifice.

"Thirty-six years ago, under the visionary leadership of our founding father president, the late Dr Sam Nujoma, Namibia was declared forever free, sovereign and independent. That moment did not mark the end of a struggle; it ignited a responsibility within each of us to protect, nurture and grow this beautiful nation we call home."

The event concluded with horse parades, dances, and other performances.
