Zambia has recorded an accumulative total of 1,307 cholera cases, with the death toll now standing at 21.

However, the outbreak reported in August last year does not affect border areas with Namibia.

Of the 1,307 cases, 1,270 have successfully recovered.

Eight of the 21 deaths occurred in health facilities.

As of this week, only nine patients remain admitted to health facilities.

The capital, Lusaka, is the second most affected area with 444 cases, behind Mpulungu, a lake harbour town with 458 cases.

The Zambia National Public Health Institute has intensified measures to curb the disease, especially in high-risk areas.

Vaccination, among other interventions, is among the key measures, with 376,573 people immunised so far.

Despite flash floods across the country, the disease remains under control.
