President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has extended condolences to the Algerian nation following the death of former president Liamine Zeroual, who died on 28 March.
She paid tribute to Zeroual’s leadership, describing him as a dedicated statesman who contributed significantly to peace, stability, and institutional development in Algeria.
His tenure, she said, was marked by a deep commitment to unity, nation-building and service to his people.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted the historic and enduring ties between Namibia and Algeria, recalling Algeria’s steadfast support during Namibia’s liberation struggle.
In a statement, Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah noted that this solidarity laid the foundation for a strong and lasting relationship between the two nations, which has continued well into the post-independence era.
The President also reflected on a milestone in bilateral relations, Zeroual’s historic State Visit to Namibia in September 1998.
