The National Council held a special sitting following the appointment of seven of its members as deputy ministers by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
The session provided direction for those who were serving in the standing committees.
Some appointed members were officially relieved of their duties in the Council's Standing Committees.
They are no longer permitted to serve on oversight committees, making adjustments to their composition necessary.
The Chairperson of the National Council, Lukas Muha, explained these rules.
The affected MPs are Moses ||Kumub and Hans Haikali, who both formed part of the Committee of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources, as well as Suzan Ndjaleka, who was part of the committee on Home Affairs, Security, Constitutional and Legal Affairs.
"This development brings changes to the organisational structure of our standing committees and other committees of the Council. Rule 171 of the National Standing Rules and Order prohibits the chairperson, the vice chairperson and deputy ministers from serving on oversight committees," said Muha.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah appointed Moses ||Kumub as the Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice President, Suzan Ndjaleka as the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services, Hans Haikali as the Deputy Minister of Works and Transport, Anselm Marungu as the Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism, Wenzel Kavaka as the Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Edward Wambo as the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, and Theresia Brandt as the Deputy Minister of Justice and Labour Relations.
