Namibia has called for continued climate financing and stronger cooperation with the Green Climate Fund to strengthen resilience against climate change and recurring droughts.

Speaking during a meeting with Green Climate Fund Executive Director Mafalda Duarte in Nairobi, Vice President Lucia Witbooi expressed appreciation for the Fund's continued support.

Vice President Witbooi requested updates on global Green Climate Fund activities and projects in Namibia, including progress on a climate-related project in the Kunene Region.

She also informed the Executive Director that the Agricultural Bank of Namibia is seeking accreditation from the Fund, which would enable access to climate finance to support farmers affected by drought and other challenges.

Vice President Witbooi urged, “The Green Climate Fund should continue providing financial and technical support to Namibia in order to help the country mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change.”
