The hearing over the Pretoria High Court judgement on the repatriation of the former President Lungu's remains involving the family and Zambian government is set for May 29th.
The development has been confirmed by the family's spokesperson, Makebi Zulu.
This marks a critical return to the legal process following an earlier August judgement that favoured the Zambian government over the burial rites.
At the heart of the dispute is whether the remains of Edgar Lungu should be repatriated to Zambia in line with the Zambian government's position or prevail against the family who are opposed to it.
The setting of May 29 by the Supreme Court of Appeal now places the matter before a higher judicial platform, where arguments are expected to be heard on the contested repatriation judgement.
This case now raises profound questions about the family's authority, state power and presidential dignity.
Lungu died on 5th June 2025 in South Africa, where he was receiving medical treatment.
