The police have officially expanded their services in the Hardap Region with the opening of a Motor Vehicle Clearance and Conduct Certificate Office in Aranos.
The new facility is expected to spare residents long trips to Mariental and Rehoboth.
The office forms part of the government's decentralisation drive aimed at bringing essential services closer to the people and reducing the time and cost associated with travelling to other towns.
Hardap Governor Riaan McNab said the facility will improve efficiency, reduce travel burdens and ensure citizens have easier access to services that support law enforcement, road safety and legitimate vehicle ownership.
"It is a demonstration of the government's commitment to bringing services closer to the people and ensuring that no community is left behind in our national development agenda."
Aranos Mayor Jacoba Viljoen welcomed the development, describing it as a milestone for the town and an important investment in accessible public services.
"This new service is more than just an office. It is a symbol of progress, accessibility and efficiency that will ensure motorists and the wider community can access vital services without unnecessary delays or long journeys."
Viljoen also called for the establishment of a fully-fledged NaTIS testing centre in Aranos, saying the new office should serve as a stepping stone towards expanding transport-related services in the town.
Hardap Police Commander Commissioner Sydney Philander said the office will strengthen the fight against motor vehicle theft and cross-border crime while making police services more accessible.
Gone are the days when our people from across the region would travel to Mariental for these services. From today onwards, residents within the Aranos district will receive them right here at Aranos Police Station."
Commissioner Philander added that the facility will help streamline vehicle clearance procedures, improve turnaround times and reinforce public trust through professional and accountable service delivery.
The Aranos office becomes the third Motor Vehicle Clearance and Conduct Certificate Office in the Hardap Region, with a fourth facility planned for Maltahöhe later this year.
Officials say the success of the new office will ultimately be measured not only by its existence but also by the quality, efficiency and integrity of the services delivered to the people of Aranos and neighbouring communities.
