Namibia has climbed from 15th to third place in the 2026 African Performance Index.

The ranking, published by Jeune Afrique and The Africa Report, assesses African countries on governance, political stability, infrastructure, and economic performance.

Officials said the achievement reflects the country's continued progress and enhances its attractiveness as an investment destination.

The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) has welcomed the country's improved ranking, describing it as a positive development for all Namibians.

Speaking on NBC's Good Morning Namibia programme, NamRA Commissioner Sam Shivute says the achievement reflects strong leadership, political stability, sound governance, and improvements in revenue collection.

"This is a great achievement for Namibia. It demonstrates that our institutions are working together and that the country is moving in the right direction."

Shivute explained that the ranking is not the result of a single institution, but rather the collective efforts of government, the private sector, and other national stakeholders.

He stressed that the improved standing sends a strong signal to investors seeking stable and well-governed countries in which to do business.

"Investors want to put their money in countries that offer stability, good governance, and clear systems. This ranking shows that Namibia possesses those qualities."

Shivute acknowledged the achievement but emphasised the need to enhance tax compliance, combat illicit financial flows, and fortify public institutions.

He also called on Namibians to continue working hard and contributing to the country's development.

Namibia is now ranked third on the continent, behind South Africa and Mauritius.
