The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism has inaugurated the Ndevahoma Auction Kraal and handed over woodworking machinery to Omauni Woodwork in the Okongo Constituency over the weekend.

The Ndevahoma Auction Kraal in Eengolo Village was constructed at a cost of N$700,000, while the machinery provided to Omauni Woodwork is valued at N$4 million.

Speaking at the inauguration and handover ceremony, Minister of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, Indileni Daniel, reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring that development reaches every region and constituency.

"This investment shows how government commitment and regional priorities can be transformed into tangible opportunities that create jobs, strengthening household income and empower rural communities, they affirm commitment toensure that development reaches everyone and every constitiecy and every community."

Daniel noted that strengthening the rural economy through improved livestock marketing infrastructure also contributes to environmental conservation.

Since the kraal became operational, more than 1,100 livestock have been auctioned, generating over N$10 million in sales.

Of that amount, approximately N$8.9 million has gone directly to farmers in the area, significantly boosting local livelihoods and the rural economy.

"When grazing pressure becomes too high, rangelands deteriorate, livestock become less productive, and communities become more vulnerable. By providing opportunities for timely off-take, this facility helps to reduce pressure on grazing resources for farmers."

Daniel added that the project was implemented through the Namibia Integrated Landscape Approach for Green Climate Fund with support from the UN and other international development partners.
