The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology is expanding its reach into rural areas of Kavango West to improve digital access and bridge the connectivity gap.

The region has a satellite centre at Mpungu, which has been operating since 2018, apart from Nkurenkuru.

MICT Kavango West's Senior Information Officer Beatus Arnat shared that rural communities in Kavango West have long faced limited access to the internet.

"This community centre is actually meant to assist the community in terms of the ICT services. Whether you have a funeral or you've got an event where you need sound or you want to capture an event, whether it's at a wedding or a meeting. The internet is free at that centre. Copies, a computer, and do whatever you need to do online. That's the purpose of these centres."

The Ncamagoro Rural ICT centre is expected to be operational by March next year.

“The Council has availed land just behind the constituency office. That's where the centre will be constructed. Given that amount, we'll see what the bill of quantity will say, and hopefully we will meet each other halfway: the ministry plus what is available—MTC made available that N$200,000, together with the regional council, and we are going to negotiate and see how we can help each other.”

The Mpungu Center is operating with minimal equipment, which is old and needs to be replaced.

There is also a need for volunteers to assist at the centres.
