The Prime Minister has reaffirmed Namibia's commitment to international law, self-determination, inclusive peace-building and multilateralism.
Dr. Elijah Ngurare made the announcement during the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations International Summit, which took place in Luanda, Angola.
The Premier called on the global community to uphold the principles of the United Nations Charter in addressing contemporary challenges, reiterating Namibia's steadfast support for the right of all people to self-determination.
"We affirm our unequivocal support for the rights of the Palestinian people for self-determination, for a just and peaceful lasting solution based on relevant United Nations resolutions and for a two-state solution. Equally, we reiterate our unwavering solidarity with the people of Western Sahara and call for full implementation of the UN resolutions, including the UN referendum on self-determination. It also remains our position that the US-imposed embargo on Cuba must be lifted."
Dr. Ngurare emphasised that sustainable peace can only be achieved through the meaningful participation of women and young people in peacebuilding, highlighting Namibia's continued leadership in advancing the women, peace and security agenda.
He further urged for comprehensive reforms of the UN Security Council to make it more representative, inclusive, and responsive, in line with the Common African Position under the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration.
"Sustainable peace can be achieved through the meaningful and full participation of women in the peace processes. In this connection, Namibia has positively contributed to the global women and peace security agenda. Namibia remains committed to advancing the role of women as agents of peace and security. The establishment of the Namibia International Peace Centre reflects our determination to translate this commitment into practical action."
On the sidelines of the summit, the premier held a bilateral meeting with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations, Miguel Ángel Moratinos.
He noted that Namibia stands ready to work closely with UNAOC in implementing the outcomes of the Windhoek+25 Declaration.
The declaration reaffirms the importance of women's full, equal, and meaningful participation in preventing conflict, building peace, and promoting security.
