Cabinet has approved a wave of strategic international agreements, education initiatives, and regional hosting duties.
This resolution and others were announced on Friday by the Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Wenzel Kavaka, at the Government Information Centre in the capital.
As part of international efforts to address the historical legacy of the trafficking of enslaved Africans, Cabinet has authorised the Ministry of International Relations to share the Accra conference report with the Ministry of Education and local universities.
Meanwhile, to increase representation in regional bodies, the government is ramping up publicity for job openings at the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat.
“In addition, Cabinet endorsed that the circulation of advertisements of vacancies at the SADC Secretariat should also include the academic institutions of higher learning such as the University of Namibia (UNAM), Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), International University of Management (IUM), research institutions and other relevant think tank organisations, in order to attract qualified Namibian applicants,” explained Kavaka.
In bilateral developments, Cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of Congo in the field of information and communication technologies and authorised the Minister of Information and Communication Technology to sign the agreement.
Relations with South Africa are set to expand with the approved signing agreement on cooperation in social development, gender equality and women's empowerment, and the legal field.
It also approved a new Bilateral Air Services Agreement between Namibia and South Africa.
"Cabinet took note of the request by the SADC Secretariat for the Republic of Namibia to host the Climate Expert Meeting and the Climate Outlook Forum (SARCOF-33), where climate experts from the national meteorological services develop a consensus seasonal climate outlook and share it with regional and national emergency operators, humanitarian organisations, dam operators, health practitioners, disaster risk practitioners, electricity producers, decision-makers, farmers and the general public.”
Finally, Cabinet reviewed the annual reports of Namibia Post Limited, the Namibian Police Force, the Universal Service Fund and the National Art Gallery of Namibia, which have been cleared for tabling in the National Assembly by their respective ministers.
