The construction of the N$220 million Buchter Village Mall at Lüderitz is set to begin, following the official site hand-over to the contractor Africade this week.

The mall is being developed by Safland Property Group and is owned as a 50/50 joint venture between Safland Property Group and Oryx Properties.

Safland Property Group Development Manager Wilhelm Schultz said phase one development, valued at approximately N$160 million, will comprise the retail centre, gross lettable area and 229 parking bays.

The centre is currently approximately 75% leased.

The phase two development, Schultz revealed, is planned to comprise a 50-room accommodation component and office space.

The project is expected to create 200 jobs during construction and an estimated 300 jobs when the mall becomes operational by November next year.
