The Education Directorate in the Zambezi Region concluded Adult Learners Week with the celebration of International Literacy Day.
 
The celebration resolved to strengthen adult education among adults and out-of-school youth.
Speaking at the International Literacy Day celebrations at Impalila Combined School in the Kabbe South Constituency, Councillor Raymond Sezuni highlighted key programmes supporting adult learners to improve their livelihoods.
 
Particular attention is being given to Community Learning and Development Centres (CLDCs), which provide access to learning resources, skills training and broader development opportunities.
  
“In the Zambezi region we have two functional CLDCs, namely the Kabbe and Ngoma CLDCs. I can confidently say that these are live programmes, implemented by promoters and education officers who often work in difficult, under-resourced conditions out of pure commitment. At our CLDCs, we continue to see tangible and visible successes.”
The Adult Skills Development for Self-Employment programme equips learners with entrepreneurial skills and links education to improved livelihoods.
 
Education Director for the Zambezi Region, Alex Sikume, also highlighted some of the activities showcased during the week.
