Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Lucia Iipumbu has clarified that there are no jobs or compensation promised to members of the Women and Men Network Against Crime.

This is because members join the network on a voluntary basis as a civic duty to safeguard their communities.

Iipumbu was responding to IPC Leader Immanuel Nahinge, who sought clarity on the requirements for one to be considered for a job in the police.

“Those that are to be recruited are those who pass the specific requirements. As we know, irrespective of all other requirements, they still have to pass the test for criminal-free records. They still must pass the test for physical fitness and also medical fitness,” Iipumbu said.

She added that, for this specific category, the academic requirements have been lowered to 20 points, as opposed to 25 points required for the general category, and the age limit has been increased from 35 to 45.

“This is an indication that there is special consideration for them to be accommodated,” the Minister said.

Iipumbu said the network’s primary objective is to support and strengthen community safety in collaboration with the police.
