The Central Northern Electricity Distributor (CENORED) electricity users will pay more for power from next month as it announces an average tariff increase of 3.5%, effective 1 October.

The increase will affect consumers in parts of the Otjozondjupa, Omaheke, Oshikoto and Kunene regions.

CENORED says the additional revenue will be used to maintain and upgrade its electricity network.
The company says investment in infrastructure is necessary to maintain reliable and continuous electricity supply.

The statutory Electricity Control Board levy, however, remains unchanged at 2.12 cents per kilowatt-hour.

Detailed tariff adjustments for domestic, commercial and industrial customers are expected to be published in local newspapers before implementation.
