The Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Emma Kantema, has highlighted that the registration of new beneficiaries or the Conditional Basic Income Grant remains dependent on the availability of funds.
She further noted that the registration process for the grant was conducted with regional involvement.
However, there are challenges in verifying new applicants.
The Minister was responding to IPC MP Lilian Lutuhezi, who asked when the government would resume registration country-wide.
Lutuhezi also sought clarity on the criteria used to determine eligibility for the grant.
Dr. Kantema explained the process.
“The application registration criteria is clearly defined. For a beneficiary to access this grant, you must be between the ages of 18 and 59 years. It is per household. "If the household is receiving a child grant, it will not be used as a criterion to determine income. However, those receiving a disability grant cannot benefit because they are already beneficiaries of another grant."
