President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has visited the house of the late retired Chief Justice Gert Strydom to pay homage.
Strydom has been accorded a State Funeral.
The President visited the bereaved family and conveyed her condolences to the widow, Maria.
Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah paid tribute to the late jurist's contribution to Namibia's justice system.
Strydom served as Namibia's third Chief Justice from 1999 to 2003, following his appointment as Acting Judge-President of the High Court shortly after independence in 1990.
Strydom continued serving as an acting judge of the Supreme Court until 2015, bringing his public service to nearly four decades.
The President described Strydom as one of the architects of Namibia's post-independence judiciary, saying his contribution to the country's justice system would not be forgotten.
Therefore, his death is a loss to the nation.
The retired Chief Justice died on 25 September at Swakopmund at the age of 88.
He is survived by his widow, Maria, and two children, Albert and Lizette.
