The fence seeks to control, prevent and contain the spread of Foot-and Mouth Disease (FMD) within the affected farmlands in the Region.

Construction of the fence is set to commence after the notice has been served in accordance with Section 21 and Regulation 13 of the Animal Health Act.

In terms of the Animal Health Act, no person may hinder or prevent authorised veterinary officials, representatives from government ministries and agencies, contractors or agents from inspecting, repairing, maintaining or constructing the said fence.
