The University of Namibia (UNAM) concluded its second four-day Level One Coaches Workshop in Windhoek, bringing together participants from boxing, basketball, athletics, and other sporting disciplines to enhance technical knowledge and athlete preparation skills.

The four-day programme, held from 12 to 15 October 2026, formed part of UNAM's broader initiative to strengthen technical expertise and improve the overall quality of athlete preparation across diverse sports.

The workshop covered key areas including talent identification, competition preparation, and the critical role of technically qualified personnel in nurturing athletes from grassroots levels to competitive environments.

UNAM Physical Education and Sport Lecturer Dr Vasti Oelofse noted that the initiative provided a vital platform for coaches to exchange ideas, address common challenges, and build practical solutions for the future of Namibian sport.

Participants engaged in both theoretical and practical modules designed to expand their understanding of athlete development.

Holy Cross Convent basketball coach Alpha Sankoh highlighted the value of the theoretical sessions, stating that the workshop offered deeper insights and clarified complex coaching concepts that were not fully addressed during his previous years in the coaching profession.

The workshop also fostered cross-disciplinary collaboration among participants from various sports federations.

Jiu Jitsu Federation Namibia President Jackeline Sass emphasized that the community aspect and the opportunity to learn from other sporting codes stood out as the most valuable takeaways from the four-day event.

Organisers noted that applying the workshop's practical methods and technical knowledge will strengthen grassroots coaching standards, creating expanded pathways for young Namibian athletes to reach their full competitive potential.
