The Kavango West Regional Council and the Nkurenkuru Town Council visited the homestead of former President Hifikepunye Pohamba at Tuguva Village to express condolences on the death of former First Lady Penehupifo.
The regional leadership was accompanied by community members of Tuguva village and learners from Tuguva Combined School.
"Even while serving as First Lady, she continued providing nursing services without charge, demonstrating that true leadership is not about titles but about the willingness to serve. For us in Kavango West, her connection to Tuguva and her contribution to the welfare of vulnerable people through OEWONA remain meaningful reminders of the importance of compassion, solidarity and community development. Her legacy challenges us to continue investing in the wellbeing of our people, particularly women, children and those who are most vulnerable," stated Chairperson of the Kavango West Regional Council, Filipus Tenga.
The Kavango West leadership described the late former First Lady as a pillar of compassion and service, whose legacy of humility and care for rural communities will endure.
Tenga noted that the late Pohamba's life was a testament of selfless service and championed women's empowerment.
" To the bereaved family, we know that no speech can replace a wife, a mother, a grandmother or a beloved friend. Please find strength in the beautiful memories you shared with her and in the lives she touched. Allow yourselves to grieve, knowing that you are surrounded by people who care deeply for you. As a region, we stand with you. We will keep you in our prayers and ask God to grant you strength, comfort and peace during this difficult time."
