The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning has approved Helao Nafidi Town Council's membership to join the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.

The aim is to support and accelerate the practice of lifelong learning in the town.

Through these activities, the Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC) promotes policy dialogue, peer learning, and collaboration among member cities.

It also contributes to capacity building and to forging new tools for developing, implementing, and monitoring learning city strategies.

UNESCO-GNLC also aims to contribute towards achieving the United Nations sustainable development goals, particularly (SDG-4) "ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all" and (SDG-11) "make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable."

The Helao Nafidi Town Council's application was approved on September 2nd, making it the first town in Namibia to be admitted to the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.
