Lawyer Norman Tjombe has requested the Inspector General of the Namibian Police, Joseph Shikongo, to investigate possible inappropriate conduct by members of his force.

Tjombe informed the Inspector General that police officers stationed at Matriental are attempting to persuade the parents of murdered Hendrina Mupolo to drop a civil case against Johan Meyer.

Johan Meyer stands accused of running over 9-year-old Hendrina Mupolo in May, after she, together with her mother and others, allegedly went to harvest beans at Meyer’s plot.

In a letter penned to Shikongo, Tjombe writes that "police officers were tasked with obtaining the necessary evidence, including witnesses’ statements, in pursuit of the criminal complaint of murder against Mr Johan Meyer, but instead they took it upon themselves to convince our clients to withdraw the civil case."

Tjombe further warns the police chief that the conduct of the police officers could possibly constitute misconduct or corruption.

Norman Tjombe has informed nbc News that his office received acknowledgment that the Inspector General’s office received the letter.

Tjombe, in August, filed a N$10.1 million civil lawsuit on behalf of Mupolo against Johan Meyer.
