Residents of the Moses ||Garoëb Constituency will go to the polls on 6 January next year to elect a new regional councillor.

The by-election became necessary following the death of the constituency's councillor, Aili Venonya, earlier this month.

The supplementary registration of voters will be conducted from 31 October to 2 November.

Those who have turned 18 years of age after the last registration; those who have moved from one constituency to another; or those whose voter registration cards are reported lost or damaged are eligible to register during the supplementary registration of voters.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia has also concluded its engagement with stakeholders and discussed the provisional schedule for the by-election with political parties ahead of the by-election.

The ECN has recruited 90 registration officials, and their training will take place from 24 to 28 October 2022 at the Assemblies of God Church in Soweto.

Voter and civic education have already begun on 17 October to encourage voters to register to vote.

Face-to-face education sessions are conducted, and these sessions will be supplemented with information on the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation and private radio stations, as well as ECN social media platforms and websites.

In terms of the Regional Councils Act, if a vacancy occurs in a particular constituency office, the ECN is obligated in terms of the law to conduct a by-election in that constituency within 90 days.

The Moses ||Garoëb Constituency currently has a total of 41,206 registered voters.
