The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism has developed a 2022–2024 National Tourism Sector Recovery Plan to revive the sector from the effects of the COVID–19 pandemic.

Its Deputy Minister Heather Sibungo announced this at the official opening of the Tourism Expo in the capital.

The recovery plan sets out a national framework for a strategic approach to the recovery process with required policy intervention, strategic programs, and activities aimed at rebooting the sector post-COVID-19.

The plan rests on five pillars, namely, policy matters (Covid's 19 tourism regulations and measures), aggressive online marketing and promoting campaigns, attracting new special segments of global travel markets, increasing tourism market intelligence through statistics and data collection, as well as improving accessibility and connectivity.

Sibungo says the tourism sector is slowly recovering, with the country experiencing notable growth in visitor arrivals.

Figures indicate that over 49% of foreigners have visited Namibia since the start of the year.

Namibia Media Holdings CEO Albe Botha says the expo will continue developing the tourism sector and strengthening destination marketing.

The tourism expo is being held under the theme "Let's bring tourism to the region" and will see 150 exhibitors showcasing and marketing their products.
