The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) is carrying out an Enhanced Enforcement and Compliance Operation aimed at ensuring that businesses adhere to their obligations when it comes to tax, customs, and excise.
In an interview with nbc News, NamRA's Chief of Strategic Communications and Support Engagements stated that they have observed low levels of compliance among taxpayers and traders (57%).
Yarukeekuro Ndorokaze says that, as a way to ensure that they meet the remaining 43%, they have currently embarked on a nationwide Enhance Enforcement and Compliance Operation, which falls under their Compliance and Enforcement Strategy.
Ndorokaze also dismissed allegations claiming that the operation only targets Chinese-owned businesses by saying it targets all businesses in Namibia.
The allegations came about when NamRA officials were carrying out operations at the China Town Complex in Windhoek on Monday.
He further emphasized that traders found to be out of compliance shall be dealt with under the Customs and Excise Act.
Although the nationwide operation began yesterday, Ndorokaze could not say when it would end.
