The International University of Management recently launched the Namibia Knowledge Management Forum.
This comes after the university started offering a postgraduate diploma and a Master of Science in Knowledge Management.
Knowledge management is a concept in which a company consciously and comprehensively gathers, shares, and analyzes its knowledge in terms of resources, documents, and people's skills.
According to experts, the goal of a knowledge management system is to provide managers with the ability to locate and organize the relevant information and expertise required to address specific business tasks and projects, leading to greater productivity and longevity.
The new forum, therefore, aims to bring different industry leaders from various institutions and countries together in an effort to create a knowledge powerhouse.
"In these days of rapid globalization, with issues of global warming, climate change, ocean warming, alternative energy sources, and so on," said Professor Oladele Arowolo, "African countries, including Namibia, can only survive if they use the new resource of knowledge management for the country to increase productivity, improve service delivery, provide high-quality education, and become internationally knowledge-driven in their work processes and practices."
The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation's Chief of News and Programming, Menesia Muinjo, says managing knowledge requires money and effective communication.
"Knowledge is apparently the new capital, but if it's not accessible, shared, communicated, or enhanced, then it becomes worthless. That's according to Hamilton et al., for those who are reading. Therefore, let's share knowledge through our newly found fountain, the Namibia KM forum."
Chairperson of the National Information Workers Association of Namibia, Namutenya Hamaalwa, says the forum has been overdue.
"I believe that it has the capacity to turn the tables around by letting our citizens know that knowledge is people, knowledge is money, knowledge is power, its learning is flexible, and it has a competitive advantage."
