The Electoral Commission of Namibia is holding a consultative workshop with stakeholders for scrutiny and input on the drafting of the Electoral Amendment Bill.
This is the second consultative workshop on the Electoral Amendment Bill held by the Electoral Commission of Namibia, following the first in September.
ECN's Chairperson Elsie Nghikembua says the review is in line with good governance, and the public will also be given an opportunity to make input.
"As a Commission, our position is to be very clear; our stakeholders can make proposals, but the Commission also has a responsibility to say that of certain factors, we prefer that the law either remain as it is or we agree; there are those we agree to and those we don't, and it is part of the consultative processes," she said, adding that "some of the amendments that we are dealing with have to do with issues of inclusivity for the youth, the people, and the people with disabilities. Some stakeholders believe that as Namibians, we have a tendency to focus solely on gender, but there are other categories that should be considered, and we are obviously listening carefully and will consider some of the suggestions."
