The Swakopmund Municipality has officially opened a N$4 million outdoor recreation facility at the northern beach.

The northern beach is an area near Platz am Meer Mall, popularly known as OK Parking.

Despite the fact that the area previously lacked recreational facilities, hundreds of revelers flocked there to relax and braai.

The Swakopmund Municipality invested about N$4 million into developing the area to better serve the public.

The playground now caters to young and old, featuring a fenced playground, braai stands, and a kiosk.

There are also toilets, showers, and a station for lifesavers.

The Namibian Navy has additionally deployed six lifeguards to ensure public safety.

This development is part of the municipality's beach access plan, said Dina Namubes, the mayor of Swakopmund.

"The purpose of this plan is to effectively manage and control recreational activities that take place on the beach. The opening of the northern beach development is indeed befitting, as it comes at a time when our town is expecting an influx of visitors. We strive to continuously enhance our town and its attractions in order to ensure that our people receive the quality service that they deserve."

Residents and tourists have welcomed the development.

"It looks very nice, especially coming out for the day to have a braai, go down to the beach, then shower, and the Navy Sea Rescue is here 24 hours a day, seven days a week. So I just hope we're going to keep this place as we received it today because the mayor opened it; you can come with your kids; they can play the whole day and have a braai here, and one thing I want to promise or say to Swakopmund people is to keep it as neat as it is today; don't litter," said Swakopmund resident Renate Hansen.

Another resident, Zeyana Cloete, added, "I feel very happy, and I love this swing the most because it is fun swinging, and I feel very happy for the playground. I'm happy and excited."

The municipality plans to set up beach soccer and volleyball facilities at the northern beachfront next year to accommodate sports fanatics.
