During the Inspector General's visit to the Kavango East Region, Ncamagoro Constituency Councillor Thomas Rengi requested a police substation in Ncamagoro village.

Currently, the villagers of Ncamagoro travel 90 kilometers to Mururani or 40 kilometers to Rundu for police assistance.

Rengi says some villagers cannot afford transport.

He says there are many criminal activities happening in the village, but few are reported due to the distance.

"Most of the cases reported from Ncamagoro are of minor acts, but we have big issues that are not reaching the police because of the behavior of our people. Previously, we requested a substation, and I believe all the criminal activities will be attended to because it is tough for some of the villagers to pay for transportation to Rundu or Mururani."

Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo responded positively to the request of the councillor.

"I have heard you, honorable councilor. I have heard you. When I get back to the office, I will sit down with my management, and Ncamagoro is one of our priorities. We will try to put something up as a matter of agency. I know Ncamagoro is under Kavango East, but in terms of police response, we don't want our community to suffer at the hands of criminals while we have police that is very close to you."

Shikongo says he will direct the Rundu Police Station to attend to Ncamagoro as Mururani is far away in terms of an emergency.

During the event, the Lieutenant General was pleased to learn that Ncamagoro has a women's and men's network.

About N$3000 was raised to assist the network. NamPol's chief donated N$15,000 and N$400 in airtime vouchers.

He advised the network to educate the villagers on gender-based violence.
