While residents and visitors of Rundu celebrated Christmas, the police were on the ground to maintain peace and order in the town.

A police operation for the festive season is ongoing in Rundu and surrounding areas, to make sure peace and security are maintained.

The nbc News team accompanied the operation, which was led by the Head of Special Field Order and Installation in Kavango East, Deputy Commissioner Leno Nambahu

The Ndama location, a hot spot for street robberies, was the first stop.

Three bars were found operating past their operational hours.

One was found selling alcohol without a liquor license.

Four bartenders were arrested and will be released if the fine of N$4,000 is paid.

Deputy Commissioner Nambahu urged bar owners to educate their employees on the rules and regulations of their liquor licenses.

"What we found here during our operation was that we came across maybe four or five bars that were operating beyond their operational hours, which means that the bar owners did not educate their people, the bartenders, to know exactly what time they should stop. In actual fact, as I am speaking, we have been at other bars, and maybe three licenses that we have come across indicate that they are not supposed to work or operate on Sunday or Good Friday, but the bartenders are not aware of this information."

During the patrol, not even the pedestrians were spared as random body searches were conducted.

Cars and their passengers were also searched.

The Deputy Commissioner issued a stern warning that they would not issue warnings and that violators would face the full force of the law.

"However, I would also want to give a warning that we are on the ground. We started with the festive season operation in December and we are ending on the 16th. This is a national operation, not only for Kavango East, so with Kavango East, we are serious, we are on the ground, and we will not leave any stone unturned."

The police operation that started at 12 o'clock midnight ended around 5 o'clock in the morning.
