One of the top-performing schools in the Omusati Region, Onawa Secondary School, was robbed of N$50,000 in school hostel fees as well as voluntary contributions during the morning hours of Wednesday.

Yesterday, the school of excellence did not begin on a positive note.

Staff and learner morale was lower than expected when our news team visited the school.

It's alleged that robbers tied up an unarmed security guard on duty, gaining entry to the premises using an unknown object with which they broke the entrance doors of the school's administration building.

The robbers then proceeded to the school principal's office and the finance office before fleeing with two safes.

The school's principal, Demetria Paulus, says only a few bags with receipts and cash totaling 960 dollars have so far been recovered.

"It's unfortunate that the robbers were well aware that the students had arrived at school yesterday and had paid their voluntary contribution as well as the hostel fee."

The police investigation into the matter continues, and the public is called upon to provide information that may lead to the apprehension of the suspects.
