A former Nambian diplomat believes learners' performance could improve if parents, teachers and learners work together.
Ambassador Dr. Samuel Mbambo said this during the Regional Executive meeting of the National Organisation of Parents in Education at Rundu.
Following the dismal performance of the learners last year, many blamed the teachers and the new curriculum.
But Dr. Mbambo says a learner's upbringing also plays a key role in their academic life.
According to Dr. Mbambo, when the parent has done his or her work in the first four years it makes it easier for teachers who are essentially the secondary parents to build on the foundation laid down by the parent. Unfortunately in some instances, teachers find it very tough because the foundation laid by the parents was not strong enough and end up getting the blame.
Mbambo urges parents to meet the teachers halfway by paying attention to their children's schoolwork.
He also called on both teachers and parents to collaborate instead of playing the blame game.
Also speaking at the occasion was Chairperson of NANSO Vincent Likoro who said that the student body will deliberate on the concerns raised NAOPE regarding the recent grade 12 examination results and how the issue of overpopulated classrooms can be solved going forward.
