A video clip that went viral on social media, showing a fight between a group of male students in grades 8 and 9 at West Side High School, has drawn the attention of the region's education director and regional leadership.
Teachers, parents and learners expressed terror at the fight that broke out on Thursday at West Side High School in Swakopmund, between a group of Grade 8 and 9 learners.
The cause of fighting was allegedly caused by an older learner being threatened by a new pupil, who had only started at the school earlier in the week.
The new learner ended up being attacked with belt buckles, resulting in a massive open wound on his head.
He was urgently rushed to the hospital by the police, where he received medical attention.
The Region's director for Education Erefriende Stephanus expressed disappointment at what she called the implicated learners' taking for granted their privileged position to have secured school placement, considering the scores of young people still struggling to be accommodated.
The Regional Director send out a stern warning saying that unruly behavior will be tolerated under her watch.
Also speaking at the event was Erongo Governor Neville Andre who said the regional leadership does not condone the learners' behavior and the disregard of the school rules and regulations.
School principal, Veneza Rheeder says it is a difficult challenge to teach a learner who is lacking parental involvement.
The Principal stressed that teachers at the school are giving their utmost best under the trying circumstances but are blamed at the end of the day for the learners' poor performance despite their efforts.
