Civil society groups and state institutions have hailed the Namibian Constitution, saying it has restored the rights and dignity of all without discrimination while addressing past injustices.

Namibians from different corners marked Constitution Day, which is normally held on February 9th.

Equal Namibia member Omar van Reenen says in the 32 years of Namibia's independence, the country has done well in preserving the provisions of the Constitution.

However, Van Reenen reminded Namibians to respect the provision of Article Eight, which guarantees respect for all Namibians irrespective of their gender or sex.

PDM MP and community activist Inna Hengari also stressed the need to carry out awareness campaigns to impart knowledge on the rights of every individual.

Hengari called on Namibians to read the constitution, and not only wait for activists to fight for their rights.

The Public Relations Officer from the Ombudsman's office, Aurelia David, echoed the same sentiments.

And they all called for people to know their constitution.
