The Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa, has expressed disappointment with the maintenance of roads in the Omaheke Region.

Mutorwa said this when he visited the Onderombapa-Aminuis-Aranos road to assess the progress made.

"And l have already taken it up with the leadership of the Roads Authority that the maintenance, not only of that road but the maintenance in terms of graveling, grading of roads generally in the Omaheke Region, is not what it is supposed to be. And therefore, using this platform, I would like to encourage the Roads Authority. l understand that in terms of the national setup, Mr. Mukatu is the area manager, but the regional manager is responsible for Omaheke and Otjozondjupa. I have already stated that the coordination should be improved. l am not blaming Mukatu, but the regional manager must be visible."

The government has also secured funds to complete the construction of the Gobabis to Aminius road this financial year.

Aminuis Constituency Councilor Peter Kazongominja welcomed the construction of more roads in the Omaheke Region.

"We appreciate that there will be challenges. Challenges are always there to be overcome, and as the contractor has put it, everything is still there. You can ask for whatever you want, and the central government will give you whatever you want, as long as we finish the road by the end of the day; that is the encouragement we have, and that is what we want."
