President Hage Geingob left for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he will join other African leaders for the 36th Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit.

Dr. Geingob is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with several other heads of State and Government, as well as international organizations, during his two day official trip.

President Geingob jetted off from the Eros Airport in the early morning hours, where fellow leaders will discuss political and economic issues.

The Summit will be held under the theme "Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation."

President Geingob will take advantage of the opportunity to meet with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, according to presidential spokesperson Dr. Alfredo Hengari.

Dr. Geingob, Hengari says, will also be among the Heads of State who will be attending the Peace and Security Council meeting.

The 36th African Union Ordinary Session will, among others, consider and make far-reaching decisions on various political and socio-economic areas to promote and advance the welfare and quality of life for the African citizenry.

These include the institutional reforms of the African Union, the state of peace and security in Africa, the activities of the Peace and Security Council, and the implementation of the AU Master Roadmap of Practical Steps to Silence the Guns in Africa.

Global political, financial, and energy policy governance and the food crisis are also at the top of the agenda.

Dr. Geingob is expected to return on Sunday.
