Project Never Walk Alone has, through its Great 50 Pledge initiative, honored President Hage Geingob, Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba, and Founding President Sam Nujoma.

The project raised over N$3 million through a dinner attended by business leaders and philanthropists to continue its work in ensuring that no Namibian child goes to school barefoot.

The recipients of the Great 50 award were selected by the Project Never Walk Alone team and included former First Lady Penehupifo Pohamba and First Lady Monica Geingos.

The founder of the project, Tim Ekandjo, noted that the selections were based on the contribution made by the individuals to society and celebrated the giving spirit, their love for humanity, and their willingness to lift others with their deeds.

Project Never Walk Alone operates solely on the support of corporates and individuals, and because of this generous support, says Ekandjo, the project wants to inspire a culture of appreciation and celebrate individuals who promote the spirit of humanity.

"We believe that individuals have the power to change the world, and even more so when we unite for a common course. We want to promote the concept of individual social responsibility that inspires the moral belief that, as individuals, we have to make decisions that are always in the interest and greater good of society."

The recognition dinner, he says, is to encourage every Namibian to become a beacon of light in someone's dark moments.

It also aims to encourage those who have more resources not to put others down but to lift them up.

Of the fifty personalities recognized, 30 made a pledge of N$100,000 to Project Never Walk Alone.

The funds raised will provide new shoes to 9000 more children.
