In its efforts to address challenges relating to the provision of electricity services in the northern parts of Namibia, electricity supplier, Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (NORED), has entered into a three-year agreement with the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc).

Acting Chief Executive Officer of NORED, Toivo Shovaleka, says there is a lack of knowledge regarding the electricity industry among the public.

Among the challenges, NORED faces are people building infrastructure on top of their power lines, electricity infrastructure being damaged, and theft.

As a result, he believes the agreement with the nbc is critical because it includes a four-month education and awareness campaign on four radio platforms about electricity services and safety tips.

Menesia Muinjo, the nbc's acting Director General, urged the public to refrain from vandalizing and stealing electricity infrastructure.

She noted that such actions deprive citizens of quality service delivery.

The agreement was signed in Windhoek today.
