Diabetes statistics double

The number of people diagnosed with diabetes has almost doubled, from over 6,000 last year to 10,802 this year.

However, these cases were only recorded at eight health facilities in the |Khomas Region, and the figures could be higher.

The figures were presented at the commemoration of World Diabetes Day in Windhoek.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services has put up screening facilities at all health facilities across the country.

Namibians are confronted with the tragic reality of suicide and mental health issues, particularly among the youth.

In response to this concern, the One Economy Foundation organised a Game Changers event to establish a secure environment for men and youth, fostering open discussions on the various factors that contribute to mental health challenges.

The event was characterised by different activities such as soccer, children's games, and physical exercise to raise awareness about mental health and suicide in the country.

MoHSS hosts Menstrual Health and Hygiene Day at Eenhana

The Ministry of Health and Social Services hosted a Menstrual Health and Hygiene Day at Eenhana to create awareness of the importance of good menstrual health and management. 

The day was preceded by a street march by learners and was further marked with dances and songs, sending a strong message about the importance of menstrual health and hygiene in schools.

January is World Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. 

It's all about creating awareness of the importance and availability of cervical cancer screening and treatment for women at risk. 

Cervical cancer is a disease that develops when cells of the cervix grow out of control. 

Giving an overview on cervical cancer awareness, Medical Officer, Dr. Chatty Lisoma says even though the disease is preventable, many women still die from it. 

Netherland-based Carican Investment to build numerous health centers in Namibia

Carican Investment, a Netherland-based health service provider plans on establishing new healthcare centers throughout the country, to complement existing public health centers.

Speaking at a one-day workshop, John Carstens, a Manager at Carican Investment said the company aims to offer universal healthcare coverage, as enshrined in the UN charter, with a special focus on primary healthcare.
