Fishrot defence lawyers call for recusal of Judge Moses Chinhengo

The ongoing Fishrot trial has been suspended again after defence lawyer Mbanga Siyomunji filed a recusal motion against Judge Moses Chinhengo.

Siyomunji's client, Nigel Van Wyk, accuses Chinhengo of bias in his application, saying that he fears an unfair trial with Chinhengo on the bench.

The recusal of Judge Chinhengo was first brought to the fore when some accused persons wanted an extended postponement of the matter, citing a lack of funds to secure legal representation of their choice.

Court dismisses fishrot-accused application to delay start of trial

Acting High Court Judge Moses Chinhengo has dismissed an application by Fishrot accused Sacky Shanghala and his co-accused to postpone their case for up to eight months.

Judge Chinhengo did not entertain Shanghala's application, ordering the former Justice Minister and his co-accused to enter a plea.

Chinhengo's ruling paved the way for the state to put the charges against the accused.

Activists Michael Amushelelo, Dimbulukeni Nauyoma trial continues

Magistrate Linus Samunzala will on Thursday continue to hear arguments in the trial of activist Michael Amushelelo and his co-accused, Dimbulukeni Nauyoma, who are facing several charges, including incitement of violence and rioting, after their arrests on March 21.

In the proceeding, the state called to the stand witnesses from the police, including two warrant officers and an inspector. The state witnesses consistently testified that they observed how Amushelelo and Dimbulukeni obeyed orders from the then-acting |Khomas Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo.

Azaan Madisia and Steven Mulundu to hear fate on May 16

Walvis Bay Murder accused Azaan Madisia and her brother Steven Mulundu will hear their fate on the 16 May.

The two stand accused of killing and burying 21-year-old Shanon Wasserfall at Walvis Bay in April 2020.

Judge Christie Liebenberg heard final arguments in the Windhoek High Court on Monday and postponed the matter to May 16 for the verdict.

The siblings, at the start of their trial, both entered not guilty pleas on the charge of murder but admitted that they buried Wasserfall's body.

Following the latest evidence from Madisia's computer, a state witness claimed that the accused may have carefully planned the murder of her friend, Wasserfall, for months.

The trial of Azaan Madisia (30) and Steven Malundu (24) is underway in the Windhoek High Court before Judge Christie Liebenberg. The siblings, charged with the murder of 21-year-old Walvis Bay resident, Shannon Wasserfall in April 2020, appeared before the court to enter their pleas.

In a surprising turn of events, the two accused pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and robbery but admitted guilt to defeating or obstructing the course of justice. Madisia also pleaded guilty to two counts of insurance fraud.

The trial of accused murder siblings, Azaan Madisia and Steven Mulundu will commence at the Windhoek High Court tomorrow 
At the harbor town of Walvis Bay, about, two years back,  the disappearance of 20-year-old Shannon Wasserfall grew traction.

The young mother went missing in April 2020, and the discovery of her body, in a shallow grave,  in October, about six months after her alleged murder.

It is alleged that Shannon was close friends with Azaan Madisa.
