SADC ministers of health convened today in an extraordinary virtual council meeting to discuss coordinated efforts to prevent and control the spread of cholera across the region.

So far, five member states, including Zambia and Zimbabwe, have recorded cholera cases, which have led to hundreds of deaths.

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, joined health ministers from 11 SADC member states in a meeting aimed at regional efforts to tackle the cholera outbreak in the region.

The Ministers of Transport for Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa have inaugurated the office of the Trans Kalahari Corridor Secretariat (TKCS) in Windhoek.

This came after the three countries signed an agreement on the development and management of the Kalahari Corridor in 2003.

The TKCS was established and housed in Windhoek, and as a stipulation for hosting the Secretariat, the Namibian government is obliged to provide an office to be used as its headquarters.

President Hage Geingob cautioned Cabinet Ministers against operating in silos, especially during a time when the government is required to achieve important goals with limited resources.

President Hage Geingob has reminded Cabinet Ministers that being a member of the Executive should not be about personal interests or those of close friends and associates.

Dr. Geingob said this as he opened the first Cabinet meeting at State House chambers.

The President says the only priority for Cabinet members should be to ensure that the needs of people are met as they have been voted to serve.
