MPs urges government to ensure effective implementation of projects

|Khomas Regional Council commits N$4 million for education projects

The |Khomas Regional Council has committed over N$4 million for projects within the education sector in the |Khomas Region for the 2023–2024 financial year.

These funds are to be utilised in the construction and renovation of school facilities and in the procurement of educational materials.

The council is currently constructing four modular classrooms and procuring desks, chairs, and chalkboards at West Monte Secondary School for N$1.65 million.

Dodgy contractors warned to shape up or face blacklisting

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, says contractors who delay national projects must be blacklisted because they fail to honour their obligations with the government.

Despite receiving payment from the government, 319 houses under the mass housing programme at Matutura were not completed because of payment disputes between the main contractor and subcontractors.

The ǃNamiǂNûs Constituency Office has embarked on self-help community development projects that seek to make a difference and improve the lives of the residents.

The office, in partnership with Kelp Blue, will soon start training 10 youth on crop production at Luderitz.

Regional Councillor Suzan Ndjaleka said Kelp Blue, an aquaculture company, is growing and managing underwater forests in the southern coastal town.

Two sewer reticulation projects completed in Ongwediva Town Council

The Ongwediva Town Council has completed two sewer reticulation projects to improve sanitation.

The first will ensure sewer reticulation at Extension 15, while the other will secure the same for the location, Sky Phase 1.

Both projects, costing N$15.2 million, were officially inaugurated by the Urban and Rural Development Minister.

Ongwediva Mayor Taarah Shalyefu says an application for sewerage connection normally costs more than N$2,000, but the council considered the economic situation of residents, who can now be connected for free until December.

Kavango East Regional Council implements 70% of intended projects in 2022–2023 financial year

Kavango East Regional Council only managed to implement 70% of its intended projects in the 2022–2023 financial year.

This was revealed at a review and planning meeting held at Rundu.

During the review process, various divisions and directorates delivered presentations, highlighting their achievements and challenges faced during the 2022–2023 financial year.

Chairperson of the Kavango East Regional Council, Damian Maghambayi, stated that most of the directorate failed to accomplish their targets due to budget constraints.
