Senior lawyer under fire after tribal slurs

A Legal Aid senior lawyer has come under fire after she tweeted tribal slurs in which she was attributing violence to the Damara people.

Lawyer Eva Maria Nangolo on Sunday posted a tweet to her over 1,600 followers, saying that the ‘Horokhoes’ festival hosted by the Damara women over the weekend overshadowed the violence of breaking bottles, stabbing with knives, and insults the tribe is known for.

"For once, the Damara people are doing something beautiful," her tweet starts.

Lawyer Kadhila Amoomo has announced that they will not be pursuing the bail application for Michael Amushelelo. Instead, the legal team will focus on the bail application for Dimbulukeni Nauyoma. The two lawyers are providing pro bono representation for the activists.

According to the legal team, they have enlisted the services of an advocate to assist in the defense of Amushelelo. Postponing his bail application will allow the advocate to have ample time to consult with the client.

NAMCOR threatens The Namibian newspaper

NAMCOR has approached top lawyer Sisa Namandje, threatening to approach the court for the daily publication “The Namibian".

“The Namibian” last week published leading stories surrounding troubles at the parastatal.

One of its headlines read 'NAMCOR board investigates Mulunga for N$100 million Angola oil blocks payment' and another 'NAMCOR's power struggle exposes suspicious deals'.

The lawyer said the two articles published by The Namibian were not published in the public interest but rather in a manner that disregards NAMCOR's rights.

Amushelelo demands suspension of Lieutenant General Shikongo

Government attorneys have responded to lawyer Kadhila Amoomo after he wrote to President Hage Geingob and demanded the suspension of the Police chief, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo.

Amoomo who is acting on behalf of activist Michael Amushelelo wrote to the Head of State informing him that police investigations into the matter in which three people died as a result of a car accident in which Shikongo was involved are underway.
