Dimbulukeni Nauyoma and Michael Amushelelo, prominent social justice activists, are set to formally apply for bail before the Katutura Magistrate's Court following their recent arrest during a peaceful demonstration against the high unemployment rate in Namibia.

The protesters faced charges of unlawful gathering, contempt of court, and instigating violence. National Assembly Parliamentarian Inna Hengari, who was also arrested at the same protest, was granted bail of N$ 5000, however, the state has opposed bail for Nauyoma and Amushelelo, who have a history of being frequently arrested and detained at public gatherings.

Sources close to the case say, their legal team, led by renowned lawyers Kadhila Amoomo and Milton Engelbrecht, is expected to argue that the charges against the activists are politically motivated and that their continued detention violates their rights.

The case has garnered significant attention from human rights activists in Namibia, who are calling for the release of the activists. Many fear that this case is indicative of a broader crackdown on dissidence in the country.

The bail hearing is anticipated to be closely followed by the public and the media, as it is believed to hold significant implications for civil liberties in Namibia.

It is an indication of their commitment to providing the best possible defense for their clients and their determination to see justice prevail.
