Erongo Red urges customers to update pre-paid metres

Erongo Red's Chief Executive Officer has urged customers to update their pre-paid metres to the new token identifier so that they are not left behind before it is implemented in November. Immanuel !Hanabeb announced this at a media briefing in Walvis Bay.

This announcement comes after all electrical suppliers received directives from the Standard Transfer Specification (STS) Association regarding the changes that will come into effect on November 24, 2024. The changes will affect not only the metres with Erongo RED but all STS-compliant metres all over the world.

The Mayor of Swakopmund, Dina Namubes, has emphasized that electricity serves as a catalyst for economic development and should be equitably distributed and supplied to all consumers within their respective regions.

Namubes said nine households were provided with electricity by the collaborative efforts of Swakopmund Municipality and Erongo Red.

After spending 24 years in darkness since the establishment of the DRC informal settlement on the outskirts of Swakopmund, residents now have access to electricity.

Erongo Red and MTC have signed an agreement to boost digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and innovation.

At the signing ceremony in Walvis Bay, Erongo Red's Chief Executive Officer described MTC as a digital enabler for the public sector.

Tino !Hanabeb believes MTC will be able to support electrification and mitigate Erongo Red's challenges, which include access to electricity, theft, and revenue collection.

Otjimbingwe residents frustrated over lack of electricity

Residents of Otjimbingwe are frustrated over the lack of electricity in their homes.

They say letters requesting the electrification of their homes were written several times but without a positive response.

Under the rural electrification program, the government and Erongo Red have partially installed electricity at the Otjimbingwe settlement and surrounding areas.

However, those without electricity are not impressed because they have been waiting for years to have their homes electrified as well.
