Landless People's Movement (LPM) MP Henny Seibeb presented a motion to look into the difficulties encountered by small-scale miners in the Erongo Region. The motion calls for increased recognition and support of the small miners.

Seibeb's motion provides a comprehensive account of the challenges confronting small-scale miners, whose operations play a crucial role in the local economy but are hindered by various obstacles. These challenges encompass regulatory constraints, limited access to mining areas, and the absence of adequate funding opportunities.

The Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) has clarified its position on financing mining exploration activities, stating that it does not provide funding for such business activities.

DBN has faced criticism for allegedly discouraging certain Namibians, particularly small-scale miners, who are interested in acquiring EPLs in the mining sector.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources has called on the Ministry of Mines and Energy to decentralise its operations to better serve small-scale miners in rural areas.

At a meeting in Swakopmund, the MPs emphasised that small-scale miners bear exorbitant costs to travel to Windhoek for services.

Although there are offices of the Mines Ministry in the regions, the parliamentarians argued that such offices are located in towns.
