The World Environment Day commemoration was held in Tsumkwe, Otjozondjupa Region, under the theme of land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.

World Environment Day, celebrated on the 5th of June, is dedicated to raising awareness, mobilising action, and promoting environmental sustainability. 

This annual event serves as a crucial reminder of the need to protect the planet and ensure a healthy, sustainable future for generations to come.

The Secretary General of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, Boemo Sekgoma, emphasised the urgent need for environmental stewardship on this year's World Environment Day. 

UNDP Economic Advisor in Namibia, Wilmot Reeves, expressed a serious concern with the dangers posed by plastic waste materials to the environment worldwide.
